Feature: Do You Wear The Same Rolex As One Of These Sporting Legends?

Watches and sport have shared strong links with one another for decades. We’re talking Hublot and football, TAG Heuer and motor racing and Omega and the Olympics. These sporting sponsorships mean you’ll catch a host of athletes with an array of different luxury watches on their wrists. However, sponsorship or not, there’s one brand that has captured the hearts of many sporting legends below—you guessed it, the almighty Rolex is at it again!

Tyson Fury

‘The Gypsy King’ and boxing Heavyweight Champion of the World, Tyson Fury, isn’t one to shy away from garish designs and some fun—after all, he ends each victorious fight with a rendition of Don McLean’s ‘American Pie’. In a recent interview with GQ, Fury declared his 18k Everose gold Rolex Day-Date 40—reference 228235—as one of the ten things he can’t live without. And looking at this beauty we can see why!

Roger Federer

Federer has sported a mix of Rolex models throughout his career, during which he’s enjoyed one of the longest running relationships between a tennis pro and a watch brand. Of all the watches Federer has worn, the most notable is the Oyster Perpetual Datejust II he wore at the 2009 Wimbledon trophy ceremony where he broke Peter Sampras’ all-time Grand Slam wins.

Lewis Hamilton

One of Formula One’s greatest ever drivers, Lewis Hamilton is a style icon in his own right—he even protested the F1’s recent jewellery ban by purposely rocking stacks of his finest jewels at one of its press conferences. “Hamilton’s Rolex of choice?”, I hear you ask. Well, following in the footsteps of fellow race car drivers past and present, he’s opted for a Rolex Daytona in a striking Everose gold.

Chris Evert

A 17-year-old Chris Evert made her Wimbledon debut 50 years ago in 1972, and during her career she went on to win an impressive 18 Grand Slam titles. So, which watch brand does a tennis legend wear? One that’s the official sponsor of multiple tennis tournaments including Wimbledon, of course. Opting for a Rolex Datejust, Evert said of her timepiece, “when I look at my watch, I see an exclusive club that I’m very, very honoured to be in”.

Shane Warne

The late, great Australian cricket legend Shane Warne was spotted with several different watches on his wrist throughout his life. That’s everything from TAG Heuer to Panerai, Breitling to Rolex. Warnie’s Rolex GMT-Master II ‘Batman’ was reportedly his favourite, although he admitted it wasn’t one he wore very often—keeping it for best, perhaps?
